Happy and Merry to You!
When the wrap has been balled up and stuffed in the trash, and my sugar-fueled children fully immersed in the splendor of Christmas morning glee, my thoughts begin to drift to the impending new year and a shiny, fresh start. What self-improvement project will I tackle this January, I wonder?
Will it be about “more” (leafy greens! time for reading! hand-written communications!) or “less” (complaining. sugar. over-committing.)? Most years, it’s a mixed bag. Or perhaps it will be about something else entirely. And though a few days remain before the mountain of prettily wrapped packages under my tree turns into an unruly mess of torn paper and casually rejected orphan ribbons, my mind has already begun this annual thought process. Certainly 2012 is the year I will become a kinder/healthier/smarter/better person, I tell myself. Despite having abandoned my self-improvement causes by Valentine’s Day most years, I always return to the drawing board with new resolve and refreshed hope. This is the year it’ll happen. I’ll report back on my intended plan next week, as my best work is completed under the firm pressure of a looming deadline. In the meantime, I’d love to hear what tricks you’ve got up your sleeve for the year ahead…if your brain has gone there just yet.
This holiday season, I hope you have much for which to be thankful. I know I do. I’m headed off to enjoy Christmas and the remaining days of Hanukkah with my sweet boys. I’ll be back next week with a new recipe or two, as well as some thoughts for the year ahead. Wishing you and yours a merry and happy holiday!
