Gone Fishing

We just returned from a vacation that had been planned a year in advance. I had more than 365 days to look forward to relaxing on the beaches of Aruba with a book (this one, to be exact) while my children dug holes in the sand with their cousins a few feet away; to wading in glassy turquoise water looking for tiny silver fish; to sleeping late then cuddling in bed with the boys well past our usual breakfast hour; to having no idea what time it was and not caring; to being off-the-grid and in-the-moment. When in doubt, blame mom. It’s all her fault! This is what my 8-year-old would have you believe. I’ve been blamed when his homework wasn’t turned in on time (I didn’t put it in the right place!), for missing snacks (I didn’t remember to pack them!) and for lost toys (it has to be someone’s fault, right?).
